Riina Raudne, PhD, is the founder and director of Health Estonia Foundation. For her doctoral thesis at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, she analyzed the discourse of everyday alcohol consumption in Estonia. In 2013, she created “Let’s Drink Less by Half” – a creative long-term advocacy campaign to reduce drinking and support alcohol reform in Estonia. The campaign highlights the ways in which the political economy of alcohol shapes alcohol culture and how policy choices can significantly reduce alcohol’s harms to society. The public debate on alcohol has indeed changed a great deal in Estonia in recent years, with even the government Action Programme from 2015 making reducing alcohol consumption in Estonia by half by 2030 an explicit goal. @rraudne
